Ryan,

After years of lifting with minimal gains and years avoiding the gym because I was so frustrated, I decided to give lifting another try. I just started your 30 program for hard gainers this past Monday, and I am already loving it. My body hurts and hates the program right now, but mentally I just want more and more. I have a couple questions for you though.

1. Can you talk to me about the importance of the 120, 90, etc. second breaks in between each set of reps? On the days of 5 sets I should theoretically be resting 80 minutes throughout the workout...is this really right or am I completely misunderstanding?

2. On off days should I be doing cardio? I am worried about putting on fat in addition to muscle. Currently, I bike back and forth to the gym (4 miles round trip) on lifting days. On off days I figured I would try to run 1.5 to 2 miles. Should I be doing this cardio or will it hinder my progress in putting on weight?

Thanks for your time and help.
